Ain't It Cool News names ABOMINABLE one of the 10 best scores of 2006!
AIN'T IT COOL

Horror Yearbook's 'Class of 2006'

ABOMINABLE Abominable introduces us to a major new talent in writer/director Ryan Schifrin. The Bigfoot legend has always needed a really first class treatment and it gets it with this fast, funny, scary rampaging monster flick. It also boasts some of the best kill scenes of the year. I'll never forget the naked woman snapped in two, Bigfoot stomping a screaming woman's head to mush or the climactic face chomping.

But what really impresses amongst all the great gory violence is Schifrin's solid characterizations and plotting. He could've just gone the easy route and wowed us with the great gore effects but he ups the ante by making us actually care about Matt McCoy's wheelchair bound hero as he desperately tries to save the day. Not many directors can make a low budget horror title that is breathlessly suspenseful, funny, scary and touching but Schifrin does. He's one to look out for.

Horror & Suspense Movies The Very Best Direct-to-DVD (or, only put out in super-limited release)
#1 -- The Piano Tuner of Earthquakes
#2 – Feast
#3 -- Abominable
#4 -- Sheitan
#5 -- Andre the Butcher

10. ABOMINABLE – I'm always nervous when it comes to a new creature feature or something that debuts on the Sci-Fi channel, but Ryan Schifrin's debut Abominable was a pleasant surprise! It had a solid straight forward story, some hot babes, some cool gore FX, and a killer lookin' Bigfoot monster. It's hard not to get giddy during a film that features appearances with Jeffrey Combs, Lance Henriksen and Dee Wallace Stone. You also can't go wrong with the foxy Tiffany Shepis, who has one of my fave deaths scenes of the year in this movie. (*Now available on DVD.)

If you were in attendance this past Saturday for the Screamfest Horror Film Festival's special closing night screening of HATCHET you would have caught a very special treat -- a new short film by filmmakers Ryan (ABOMINABLE) Schifrin and Adam (HATCHET) Green entitled King in the Box.

The comedy/horror film is now online so everyone who missed this puppy on the big screen can now watch it in the comfort of their own homes. What's the film about? Don't ask... WATCH!

Ryan Schifrin's feature film debut harks back to the golden days of the creature feature, as he combines elements of Rear Window and Jaws, in what could quite possibly be the best man in a monster suit creature feature I've seen in nigh on two decades. Matt McCoy stars as wheelchair bound Preston Rogers, struggling to cope with an accident six months previously, which saw his wife die and his mobility severely limited. Preston is traveling to his log cabin with Nurse Otis for a weekend of rehabilitation.....

Actor Paul Gleason Has Passed Away

Paul Gleason, best known for playing the angry high school principal in The Breakfast Club and the villain in Trading Places, died Saturday, May 27. He was 67.

Gleason succumbed to mesothelioma, a rare form of lung cancer linked to asbestos, members of his family said. "My dad was an intelligent, hard-working Renaissance man," his daughter Shannon Gleason-Grossman told the Los Angeles Times. "His motto was to always keep working."

All of Paul's friends from ABOMINABLE send our deepest regrets, and prayers to his family and friends.

It has been sighted 42,000 times in 68 countries. A creature of myth and legend known by several names: Yeti, Sasquatch, and the infamous Bigfoot. We've hunted it for years, but what happens when it decides to hunt us?
